Clemson university life
has something to offer everyone. It has more than 230 student organizations
that cover all areas of life: social, political, education, charity,
entertainment, government.
Fike
Recreation Center
3 modern gyms with resistance-training
machines, aerobics room, cardiovascular equipment, multi-purpose rooms
for karate, lounge, squash court, 8 lane swimming pool, 21 outdoor tennis
courts, sand volleyball courts, climbing wall, 3 outdoor sports fields,
indoor running track with 3 lanes and lap clock. The Fike center had
over 0.4 million visits in the year 2004-2005.
Community Service
The community service office
allows students to spend time doing social work that helps them discover
their values and build relationships. The following service groups are
operational on the campus.
- Alpha phi omega: national service.
- Crop Walk: to stop hunger.
- Habitat For Humanity: low income housing.
- Sertoma: for people with speech and
related disorders.
- Tigers Who Care: general service related
work.
Intercultural
Center
The Gantt Intercultural
center provides support, information, and training services to students
with diverse ethnic backgrounds. Most of the cultural awareness programs
are spread monthly throughout the year. The communities served are:
Black, Hispanic, Pacific, and Asian.
Health care and
Insurance
The Redfern Health Center
makes available at competitive rates a health insurance plan covering
sickness and accidents.
Student Development
Services
LeaderShape, a non-profit
organization, serves a leadership development program which is over
a week long, offering intensive self-reflection and motivation. There
is also a leadership council and bureau offering support for the same.
The LIFE program is targeted at first year students with evening workshops
for five weeks. The undergraduate leadership course imparts theoretical
and practical training with 3 credits.
The Union Underground
Maintained by the student
union, it provides facilities for bowling, billiards, video games, table
tennis, air hockey, and board games.
Greek Life
Two Greek national organizations
are operational at Clemson: Order of Omega and Rho Lambda, and over
30 others. About 30% of students are members of greek fraternities and
sororities.
Media Centers
Six media centers are operational
on the campus, such as Semantics, TAPS, and The Tiger newspaper. The
Almond is a student run satirical newspaper. ClemsonTalk is the popular
online chat forum. CCN is a cable television center run by students.
